Sources and checking dates
Published · Last updated
This site makes claims about vehicles, matching and need. Where those claims come from outside our own reading of the public record, the source is named here with the date it was last opened. Where something could not be retrieved, or is not published at all, that is written down as well rather than quietly assumed.
- Sources below were opened and read on 02/09/2026 unless a different date is given.
- Where a source states its own last-updated date, that date is recorded next to it.
- Unavailable evidence is listed as unavailable. It is not paraphrased from memory.
- No fleet data, rate table or company record has been supplied to or verified by this site.
Regulatory and ombudsman sources
| Source | Used for | Source's own date | Read on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Financial Ombudsman Service — credit hire and credit repair after a no-fault accident | The need and suitability tests; the description of a hire vehicle as “normally a like-for-like replacement or similar”; who a complaint goes to; the absence of a guarantee that a third-party insurer will pay | Last updated 10/07/2026 | 02/09/2026 |
| Financial Conduct Authority — about the Consumer Duty | The standard of care and support expected of regulated firms, including consumer understanding | Page dated 24/02/2026 | 02/09/2026 |
These sources are used only where they apply. Not every credit hire agreement, supplier or dispute falls within the Financial Conduct Authority's rules or the Financial Ombudsman Service's jurisdiction, and this site does not suggest otherwise.
Vehicle, accessibility and licensing sources
| Source | Used for | Source's own date | Read on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Motability — the Motability Scheme | That Scheme vehicles are leased rather than owned, that the Scheme arranges insurance, servicing and breakdown cover, and that vehicles can be adapted | No date published on the page | 02/09/2026 |
| GOV.UK — financial help if you are disabled: vehicles and transport | Motability Scheme qualifying benefits, the Blue Badge scheme, vehicle tax exemption and reduction | No last-updated date shown | 02/09/2026 |
| GTA Technical Committee | That the General Terms of Agreement has set standards and maximum daily rates for insurers and credit hire companies since 1999, and publishes maximum-rate categories for cars, commercial vehicles, private hire/taxi and motorcycles | Site footer dated 2026 | 02/09/2026 |
What could not be retrieved
The GTA vehicle group tables are not publicly published. On 02/09/2026 the public GTA site was reachable and confirms the categories above, but the detailed group tables sit behind the members' area. Every route we tried on the public site returned the same landing page, and no group table was retrievable.
This matters for how you should read the group letters that appear elsewhere on this site — S, M, F, P and SP bands and the example vehicles placed in them. They are recorded here as the matching convention as it is described and used in the industry, not as figures a reader can go and check at source. Where a page quotes a group letter, treat it as background to how matching is organised rather than as a verified rate or entitlement. Vehicle classes explained states this at the point of use.
Nothing on this site depends on those tables for its practical advice. Suitability, as set out on what counts as a suitable replacement, is decided by what you need the vehicle to do.
Data this site does not have
- Fleet data. No credit hire company has supplied stock, utilisation, downtime or cost data to this site. This is why the Fleet Duty Rating remains awaiting data and no rating has been published, and why Credit Hire Car of the Year has not been awarded.
- Delivery times. We publish none, because we have measured none.
- Search volumes. No keyword volume data was available when this site's coverage was planned, so no page claims a level of demand.
- Company records. This site does not maintain a directory of credit hire providers and makes no comparative claim about any firm.
How reviews and durability records are sourced
Model reviews and durability records stand on attributed public sources: DVSA MOT results, the DVSA recall database, published owner surveys, manufacturer documentation and trade press. Each review carries its own numbered source list at the foot of the page, and no review carries a score derived from fleet data. The editorial rules behind that are on about this site.
Images
Vehicle photography used on this site is manufacturer press material, recorded with its provenance. No image is presented as a photograph of a vehicle that would be supplied to any particular reader, and every class and model image is captioned as an example rather than as an offer.
