The Credit Hire Car of the Year is the annual award for the vehicle that best survives credit hire fleet duty — the hardest test a mainstream car faces — judged on Fleet Duty Rating operational data, not on press-launch impressions. The Fleet Duty Rating is awaiting data, so no award has been made and no winner has been named.

What is the Credit Hire Car of the Year?
An award decided by how cars actually perform in high-utilisation UK hire service: many drivers, high mileage, no mechanical sympathy. Most car awards measure how a vehicle launches; this one measures how it lasts, which is the quality that matters to the fleets that buy these cars in volume and to the drivers handed them after an accident.
How is the winner judged?
On the four Fleet Duty Rating fields, weighted for the award as follows:
- Faults by mileage band — the primary criterion: how little goes wrong, and how late.
- Downtime days — availability for hire; a car that is off the road fails its purpose.
- Cost per 1,000 miles — the economics of keeping the model in service.
- Miles run — the eligibility threshold and evidence base: a model must have accumulated sufficient recorded fleet mileage for its figures to be meaningful, and higher exposure strengthens, never weakens, a strong record.
Eligibility rules: the model must be in genuine UK credit hire supply during the judging year; its Fleet Duty Rating fields must be populated from live fleet data (the award cannot be judged, and will not be announced, before the operational data release — see the methodology); and public-source records (DVSA MOT, recalls, owner surveys) act as a cross-check, never a substitute.

Who can enter?
No one — there is no entry process, no fee and no submission. Every model in UK credit hire supply with qualifying Fleet Duty Rating data is automatically in contention, and manufacturers cannot enter, sponsor or influence the result (ownership and commercial model: about this site).
